Overview

UBA America operates in the United States as a Branch of a Foreign Banking Organization, United Bank for Africa (UBA Plc) with a rich history spanning over seven decades.

UBA America commenced operations in 1982 as a Representative Office, and subsequently obtained a banking license in 1984 to operate as a Federal Branch in New York. The Cayman Islands branch was established in 1987. The bank supports and facilitates trade, investment, development and capital flows between Africa and North America. We offer Correspondent and Corporate Banking as well as Treasury services to our global customers across key sectors, which include Financial Institutions, Sovereigns, Multilateral and Development Organizations.

The British and French Bank Limited (BFB) commenced business in Nigeria in 1948.  
Following Nigeria’s independence from Great Britain, United Bank for Africa was incorporated in 1961 to take over BFB.  
UBA listed its shares on the Nigerian Stock Exchange in 1970, becoming the first Nigerian bank to undertake an Initial Public Offering (IPO).
UBA America was established as a representative office in New York City in 1982.
Thanks to being granted a federal banking license in 1984, UBA America now operates as a federal branch in North America.
